Admin dashboards: the internal tool that saves hours
Shared spreadsheets, emails and scattered messages have their limits. A custom dashboard brings order to your team's day-to-day.
Many businesses run on a mix of spreadsheets, shared folders and WhatsApp messages. It works... until it doesn't. That's where a custom admin dashboard makes a difference.
What an admin dashboard is
It's a private web application, just for your team, where business information is managed: orders, customers, inventory, requests, website content. Everyone logs in with their own account and sees what they need.
Signs you need one
- The same information is copied across several files and never matches.
- Someone spends hours every week preparing the same report.
- You don't know who changed a piece of data or when.
- To find out an order's status you have to ask one specific person.
What I usually include
- Lists with search and filters, to find any record in seconds.
- Validated forms, which prevent data-entry mistakes.
- Roles and permissions, so everyone sees and edits only what's theirs.
- Change history, to know who did what.
- Export to Excel or PDF when you need to share.
- Key metrics on the home screen, with the essentials at a glance.
Start small
You don't need to automate the whole business at once. I usually start with the process that takes the most time, we solve it well, and from there the dashboard grows with what the team asks for.
This very website has a dashboard like that: I use it to publish portfolio projects and these articles without touching code.
