7 signs your website needs a redesign
You don't need to rebuild your site every year, but there are clear symptoms that yours is no longer helping your business. These are the ones I see most.
A redesign isn't about trends. I suggest one when a site stops doing its job: explaining what you do, building trust and leading people to take the next step. These are the signs I come across most often.
1. It looks bad on mobile
If people have to zoom in to read, or buttons are cramped together, most of your visitors are having a poor experience. For almost everyone, the phone is now the first screen.
2. It's slow
A slow page makes people leave before they see what you offer. The cause is often huge images, heavy templates or plugins nobody uses anymore.
3. It's not clear what you do in five seconds
If someone lands on your home page and can't tell at a glance what you offer and who it's for, the copy or the structure needs work.
4. You're embarrassed to share it
It's a more honest signal than it seems. If you'd rather send a PDF than your website, the website isn't representing you.
5. Updating it is painful
If changing a price or uploading a photo means calling someone or fighting the editor, you'll end up never updating it.
6. Nobody contacts you through it
A site with visits but no messages usually has a call-to-action problem: hidden forms, unclear buttons or too many steps.
7. Your business changed and the website didn't
New services, a different audience, a new look. When the website tells an old story, it confuses people.
Before redesigning
You don't always need to start from scratch. Sometimes reorganising the content, improving speed and clarifying the copy is enough. That's why I always start by reviewing what works and what doesn't, and only then propose the scope of the change.
If you recognise your site in several of these signs, get in touch and we'll review it together.
